The Department of Prisons reports that four inmates were injured in a serious clash that occurred this evening (26) inside the Galle Prison. A special investigation has been launched into the incident, and the Police Special Task Force and police officers have been deployed to bring the situation under control.

According to the Prison Media Spokesperson, Mr. Gamini B. Dissanayake, the clash arose from an argument among inmates that escalated into violence. Two of the injured inmates, who are in critical condition, have been admitted to the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, while the other two are receiving treatment at the prison hospital.
Rival Gangs
Police sources indicate that the clash was initiated by a follower of Sobhanandi Jayalath de Silva, also known as Jayalath Sudda, an organized crime figure suspected to be hiding in Dubai.
Internal sources reveal that the confrontation occurred between two rival criminal gangs within the prison—those associated with Ahungalle Loku Petti and Karandeniya Sudda. The fight is believed to have been triggered by an ongoing dispute between the two groups.
Under the emergency security measures implemented by the Department of Prisons, additional police officers and members of the Special Task Force were deployed to ensure the security of the prison. Prison officials report that the situation is now fully under control.
The Department of Prisons has taken steps to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident and plans to take legal action against the inmates involved in the clash. Furthermore, additional security measures are being introduced to prevent such incidents in the future.
Prison authorities emphasize that they are working diligently to address this incident and are committed to implementing all necessary steps to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
