Dinesh Fernando, President of the All Ceylon Fireworks Manufacturers Association, says that the demand for firecrackers has risen with the start of the election season in Sri Lanka.
He noted that in previous years, the sale of fireworks and firecrackers was low during this time. Typically, manufacturers would produce and store their products for Christmas and New Year. However, this year, the demand is high due to election campaigns across the country.
Mr. Dinesh explained that election rally organizers are flocking to the Kimbulapitiya area in large numbers to purchase firecrackers.
Local manufacturers in Kimbulapitiya report that traders from across the country are buying large quantities of firecrackers, leading to unexpected revenue for both producers and sellers.
