The Minister of State for Finance, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, has announced the cancellation of the permit system for the import of wheat flour, effective from midnight yesterday (29).
Speaking to the media in the Ruwanwella area this morning (30), Minister Siyambalapitiya highlighted the new regulations concerning imported wheat flour. He explained that the existing duty range for imported wheat flour, which stands between Rs. 16 and Rs. 27, will remain intact. Furthermore, an additional tax of Rs. 6 will be levied on imported wheat.
The primary objective behind these measures is to ensure effective control over the importation of wheat flour. Despite these alterations, the State Minister assured the public that the price of wheat flour will not see any increase.
