Human Rights Commission Commissioner, Lawyer Nimal Punchihewa, has emphasized that any announcement regarding the complaint filed about Keheliya Rambukwella’s human right violations through the arrest by Rambukwella’s daughter must await a formal investigation into the matter.

Speaking at a workshop organized by the Kandy District Office of the Human Rights Commission, Punchihewa highlighted the necessity for the CID to provide sufficient reasonable grounds for Rambukwella’s arrest. Failure to do so, Punchihewa asserted, could constitute a violation of Rambukwella’s fundamental rights.

The workshop, aimed at informing government officials about accessibility facilities for persons with disabilities, served as a platform for Punchihewa to address pressing human rights issues, including Rambukwella’s case.

Furthermore, Punchihewa revealed that the Human Rights Commission has launched a special investigation into the alleged violation of human rights stemming from the importation of substandard drugs, even in the absence of complaints from affected individuals.
