A collective of 30 trade unions in the health sector is calling for the immediate withdrawal of a circular issued by the health secretary aimed at suppressing health trade unions. The unions have set a deadline for the secretary’s response, stating that a final decision must be announced today (25) or they will initiate actions starting from next Wednesday.
Trade union leaders caution that these actions will commence with peaceful protests but may escalate into an indefinite strike if their demands are not met. The health professionals are protesting against the secretary’s attempts to stifle their right to express concerns about various incidents impacting patients’ well-being.
These concerns include the importation of substandard drugs, administering vaccines causing allergic reactions, and prescribing inappropriate medications to patients.
