Former Minister Harin Fernando has been taken into custody by the Badulla Police over an alleged breach of election regulations.
The arrest occurred when Fernando visited the Badulla Police Station to provide a statement regarding the incident in question.
The issue arose during an election campaign held in Badulla on the night before the election. Reports indicate that Fernando became involved in a heated exchange with police officers during the event. In the midst of the argument, he removed his t-shirt and handed it over to the police.
The t-shirt Fernando was wearing reportedly resembled a Lionel Messi football jersey, featuring the prominent number ’10.’
Fernando was produced to the Badulla magistrate and granted bail.
