Former State Minister Shivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, also known as Pillayan, appeared at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) today to provide a statement regarding the Easter Sunday terrorist attack, as reported in a controversial documentary by British Channel 4.

Pillayan arrived at the CID at 9:30 a.m. and spent nearly three hours giving his statement. The video, broadcast on June 8 last year, alleged that the Easter attack was orchestrated with Pillayan’s involvement. These claims were made by Asath Maulana, a former media spokesperson for Pillayan, who is currently residing in Switzerland.

The Ministry of Public Security received a formal complaint requesting an investigation into the documentary’s allegations. As a result, the CID launched an inquiry and summoned Pillayan on November 12 to provide a statement. However, he was unable to attend on that date and, through his lawyers, requested an alternative date.

Pillayan was subsequently asked to appear today, where he complied with the summons, gave his statement, and left the CID premises.
