Harak Kata and Kudu Salindu Presented to Court After Detention Orders Expire

Harak Kata and Kudu Salindu, who have been in the custody of the CID under the Prevention of Terrorism Act for 362 days, were brought before the court after their detention orders expired today (11).

The saga began on March 7th, 2023, when seven individuals, including Harak Kata and Salindu Malshika, also known as Kudu Salindu, were arrested in Madagascar. They were subsequently transported to Sri Lanka on March 15th, 2023.

Upon their arrival in Sri Lanka, they were detained and interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department for a period of 362 days in accordance with the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act. However, their detention orders reached their expiration date today (11).

Following the completion of their detention orders, Harak Kata and Kudu Salindu were taken to the Colombo Forensic Medical Officer this morning (11) for examination. Subsequently, they were escorted to court for further proceedings.

Harak Kata was presented before the Kotuwa Magistrate Court, while Kudu Salindu appeared before the Panadura Magistrate Court.

The Colombo High Court Judge, Damith Thotawatta, ordered that Nandun Chintaka, also known as Harak Kata, be remanded until April 26th, upon his presentation before the Colombo High Court.

Similarly, the Panadura High Court Judge directed the Panadura Chief Magistrate, Champika Rajapaksa, to ensure that Kudu Salindu remains in secure prison custody until March 25th.
