The Government Medical Supply Division has announced the withdrawal of 64 medicines and surgical instruments between January and July of this year.
The decision to remove these items from use came after separate circulars were issued based on investigations conducted in response to received complaints, according to the department.
One of the medications withdrawn from use is “Dobutamine,” which is commonly employed to address decreased heart rate. Since last Sunday (16), this emergency treatment medication has been discontinued, primarily used in intensive care units.
Alongside Dobutamine, a range of other drugs and equipment, including saline, cannulae, contact lenses, and aspirin, have also been removed from circulation. The majority of these discontinued items were either imported from India or manufactured within Sri Lanka.
