The government will take steps to allow the import of vehicles in three phases as previously planned, Cabinet Spokesperson, Minister Vijitha Herath said.

The Minister revealed this at the media briefing to announce cabinet decisions today (06).

The Minister said this in response to a question raised by a journalist.

“The idea of the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank was to allow the import of vehicles which has been suspended over few years. The import of vehicles was allowed according to a certain method. The previous agreement was in three stages. We, as a government, think that permission should be given to import vehicles according to the first stage. The import of vehicles will take place in the future according to that method.
