The government has considered the abolition of the G.C.E Ordinary Level and Grade five scholarship exams in the upcoming education reforms Mawbima Weekend newspaper reports.
Sourcing the government The Mawbima newspaper says that the expert committee appointed for the assistance to Ministerial Committee on Education reforms which is headed by President Ranil Wickramasinghe is considering having a different assessment method instead of having these exams.
The first discussion of this ministerial committee was held on the 14th at the Presidential Secretariat under the chairmanship of President Ranil Wickramasinghe.
There, the President has brought to the attention of the expert committee the retention of children in school education for 13 years and has mentioned that a decision should be taken on the necessity of equivalent level and grade 5 examinations.
This expert committee is going to hand over a comprehensive report to the president who is the chairman of the ministerial committee in the near future regarding the reforms to be carried out in 05 fields of education in Sri Lanka.
There, relevant reforms are to be carried out in the fields of pre-childhood and preschool education, primary and secondary education, vocational training, and information technology.
