Former President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, who recently stepped down from office, has been provided with a new official residence by the government. According to a report from the Sunday Times newspaper, he is currently residing in a house situated in Stanmo Chandrawanka, Colombo 7.
Upon his return to the country, the house given to him by the government on Bauddaloka Mawatha proved to be too noisy and disruptive, resulting in his dissatisfaction. As a result, the government decided to offer him a new house, considering his concerns.
Initially, the Stanmo Chandrawanka residence was intended for Foreign Minister Ali Sabri. However, an agreement was reached, and Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has now settled in this house.
Foreign Minister Ali Sabri is Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s personal lawyer and it was the former president who introduced him into politics.
The official residences of the Chief of Defense Staff, Shavendra Silva, and the Air Force Commander are also located close to this house.
