Gotabaya Rajapaksa Denies Ownership of Building in Kataragama

Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has dismissed recent media reports linking him to a building located near the Menik Ganga in Kataragama, reiterating that the property does not belong to him.

In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, Rajapaksa said certain media outlets have repeatedly and erroneously claimed that the building was his. He noted that on Monday (October 13), some television channels had once again mentioned his name in connection with the same property.

Rajapaksa clarified that a previous investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had already looked into the ownership of the building. During that inquiry, he had also given a statement. According to him, the only reason his name came up was due to an electricity connection application submitted under the name “G. Rajapaksa.” However, he explained that the document did not bear a proper signature, only what he described as an “unclear scribble.”

Reaffirming his position, the former President stated, “The building near the Kataragama Menik Ganga is not my property.” He further added that he has never had any reason or desire to construct or maintain any building in the Kataragama area.
