TheGovernment Medical Officers Association has announced that doctors will stage a protest on the 11th to demand action on the shortage of doctors in the country. The protest comes in response to the perceived inaction of the Health Minister in addressing this critical issue.
The association accuses the health authorities, led by the minister, of presenting fake solutions instead of addressing the real problems of doctor shortages and doctors leaving the country. They argue that the proposed solutions are merely delaying tactics.
During the protest, doctors from hospitals across the country will gather in Colombo. The protest is designed to raise awareness about the pressing need for more doctors and to demand genuine solutions to the problem.
The association emphasizes that the protest will not disrupt medical services at their workplaces. Instead, doctors plan to use leaflets and other forms of communication to inform the public about their cause.
Dr. Haritha Aluthge, the union secretary, emphasized that this protest is unprecedented in the history of doctors’ demonstrations in the country and that it would reflect the urgency and seriousness of the doctor shortage issue.
