Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) has strongly voiced its opposition to the government’s proposal to establish private medical colleges as a means to address the shortage of doctors.
They argue that the government should focus on retaining doctors who leave the country and address practical issues rather than resorting to private medical colleges. The Government Medical Officers’ Association claims that the government is considering the establishment of medical colleges based on religious ideologies.
Haritha Aluthge, the Secretary of the Government Medical Officers Association, highlighted the association’s long-standing opposition to private medical colleges, citing concerns about their feasibility and the potential impact on internationally accepted medical education. He emphasized that this stance is not an act of cowardice but a principled decision taken unanimously by the central committee.
