Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa and billionaire businessman Thirukumar Nadesan were yesterday acquitted by the Gampaha High Court in a case filed by the Attorney General for misappropriating state funds to build a luxury house in Malwana.

The AG alleged that the accuses had purchased land of sixteen acres in extent from Mapitigam in the Malwana area to run a farm and had built a luxurious house with a swimming pool.

The presiding judge on the previous occasion said that it would make a ruling on the issue, whether the court could proceed with the case any further or not today, June 3.

Accordingly, the High Court held that the court would not proceed with the matter and acquitted both accused.
