Ravi Seneviratne, former Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, has been released on bail after being remanded for causing a car accident while driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident, which occurred on Sunday (29) resulted in a collision with a parked WagonR car and a bus in Wellawatta Sea Mawatha, while he was driving from Bambalapitiya to Dehiwala. The former Senior DIG was confirmed to be intoxicated during a breath test conducted by the police.
Following the completion of police investigations led by the Wellawatta Police, Seneviratne’s release on bail was granted by the Additional Magistrate. He is now free on a body bond of one lakh rupees and a cash bond of 2500 (two thousand five hundred) rupees. The case is scheduled to be called again on January 24, where charge sheets will be filed.
During the legal proceedings, Ravi Seneviratne was represented by a team of prominent lawyers, including the President’s lawyer Nalinda Indratissa, senior lawyers Chandana Perera, and Geetma Fernando.
