Former Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha member Shantha Mudunkotuwa died this afternoon (12) after sustaining gunshot injuries in a shooting incident on Attygalle Mawatha, Meegoda.
According to police, a group travelling in a car opened fire at Mudunkotuwa while he was riding a motorcycle. He was rushed to the Homagama Hospital with critical injuries but succumbed shortly after admission.
The 46-year-old was a resident of Watareka, Padukka.
Investigations have so far not determined the motive or the type of firearm used. However, it has been revealed that Mudunkotuwa had previously lodged several police complaints over land disputes.
Meegoda Police are continuing further investigations.
