Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage imposed a foreign travel ban today (25) prohibiting foreign travel against the convener of the Inter-University Student Union, Wasantha Mudalige, Lahiru Weerasekera, General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Teachers’ Union, Joseph Starling, Rangana Lakmal, Eranga Gunasekara , and Father Jeevantha Peiris. They were imposed a travel ban following a request made by the Police in connection with the alleged incident of damaging public property while holding a demonstration in front of the police headquarters on June 9th.
The court has issued this order considering the request of the Fort Police to prohibit the foreign travel of the suspects related to this incident as they have received information that they are trying to travel abroad.

In relation to this incident, nine people including social activist Ravidu Senaratne alias ‘Ratta’, Rathkarave Jinarathana Thera, actor Jagath Manuvarna and Johan Appuhami were arrested by the Fort Police and released on bail earlier.

At that time, the protestors who came in front of the Fort Police Headquarters demanded that the law be enforced against Deshbandu Tennakoon and others who attacked the peaceful people’s struggle on May 09 and were hiding from the law.
