Dr. Channa de Silva, a distinguished respiratory pediatrician, issues a crucial plea to parents and teachers, urging them to shield children from excessive sunlight exposure, particularly during these times.

With sports training activities underway, Dr. de Silva emphasizes the importance of directing children to engage in such activities while ensuring they are adequately protected. He advises that children be outfitted with hats and clothing that provide sufficient coverage to shield them from the sun’s harmful rays.

Dr. de Silva highlights the risks associated with prolonged periods of bed rest, cautioning that it can lead to heat shock—a potentially severe condition.

Furthermore, the expert stresses the significance of hydration, urging adults to provide children with ample water and natural beverages. For children with respiratory ailments, Dr. de Silva recommends the consistent use of mouth masks and medication.

In addition, Dr. de Silva underscores the therapeutic benefits of water immersion, suggesting that children be allowed to spend 20 to 30 minutes in water to help alleviate heat-related stress.

As temperatures rise, it is imperative for caregivers and educators to prioritize the well-being of children by implementing these protective measures against excessive sun exposure.
