The SLPP party cadres should not entertain any fear or doubt about participating in this year’s May Day rally scheduled to be held at Campbell Park since all necessary precautions have been taken in consultation with the Inspector General of Police, says Parliamentarian S.M. Chandrasena.
The reason for requesting special security for the May Day rally is that the parties and supporters of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna have shown some reluctance to participate in the May Day rally this year.
Last year, on May 9, due to the violent acts of the Galle Face Green mob attack, even the local-level leaders of the Podujana Peramuna were severely affected and had to face various issues.
Due to this situation, the party organizers have informed the party headquarters that the people who usually come for the party’s parades are having reservations to participate in the May Day rally this year, and they have also requested that a special arrangement be made to ensure their safety.
Party sources told Lankasara that a discussion related to the holding of the party’s May Day rally and encouraging as many party members as possible for the Campbell park rally will be held today (27) under the chairmanship of party founder Mr Basil Rajapaksa at the Nelum Mawatha office in Battaramulla.
