Kalutara High Court Judge Pradeep Abeyratne handed down death sentences today (27) in a two-decade-old murder case, convicting eight defendants accused of killing an individual using sharp weapons.
The Attorney General had initiated legal proceedings against the eight suspects in the High Court, charging them with the murder of Seyer Mohamed Mohamed Faris. The incident occurred in Kalil Place, Kalutara South, on or around March 24, 2003.
The individuals sentenced to death in connection with this case include 46-year-old Mohammad Zain Mohammad Hamza, 49-year-old Abdul Karim Mohammad Rawisdeen, 59-year-old Mohammad Maws Mohammad, 45-year-old Mohammad Riyazdeen Mohammad, and 47-year-old Mohammad Jifri Mohammad. All of them were residents of the Maha Heinatiangala area in Kalutara.
Additionally, Dr. Jinnah, 43-year-old Mohammad Jifri Mohammad Pirdaws, 44-year-old Mohammad Zaheer Mohammad Siam, and 45-year-old Mohammad Nilabdin Mohammad Hafeel were also sentenced to death in connection with the same case.
It is noteworthy that at the time of the murder, which occurred two decades ago, seven of the eight convicts were young men in their twenties.
