Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha has revealed plans to make pre-childhood education mandatory for all four-year-old children.
The minister emphasized that the government will provide support for children who are unable to afford pre-childhood education. In cases where space is available, pre-childhood development centers can be established within primary schools, offering a solution to schools facing potential closure.
Minister Premajayantha made these remarks while participating in a program held at ‘Water’s Edge’ in Battaramulla during the launch of the ‘Healthy Life is Happy Heart’ school health promotion month.
He stressed the importance of aligning pre-school education in the country with international standards and called for a shift in the perception that “pre-school is merely a precursor to formal schooling.”
