The Ministry of Health has announced that Dr. Rukshan Bellana, who has been serving as the Deputy Director of the Colombo National Hospital on a temporary basis, has been granted permanent status in that role.

This decision follows a comprehensive selection process conducted by the Ministry of Health and the Public Service Commission, which included interviews for 70 administrative service doctor positions across various health institutions, including hospitals. Dr. Rukshan Bellana’s appointment is among those finalized by the commission.

According to sources within the Ministry of Health, these appointments were made based on applications submitted by candidates several years ago, underscoring a meticulous approach to the selection process.

Officials have emphasized that successful candidates must report to their designated positions within three days of their appointment. Failure to do so will result in the cancellation of their appointment, with the opportunity then extended to the next eligible candidate on the list.

In cases where appointed doctors express concerns about distance or impending retirement, priority will be given to the next candidate on the list. However, if administrative service doctors require special considerations or protections, the Ministry of Health will address such concerns accordingly. Officials have noted that there may be slight delays in the reporting for duty, but reassured that necessary arrangements will be made promptly.
