Dr. Palitha Mahipala, the former Director General of Health Services, is set to assume the position of Secretary of Health next Monday (20). Dr. Mahipala, a distinguished specialist, has an extensive background in public health, health sector management, business administration, and economic development.
Having served as the Director General of Health Services, Additional Secretary of Health, and Deputy Director of General Public Health Services in the Sri Lankan government, Dr. Mahipala brings a lot of experience to his new role. His previous appointments also include representing the World Health Organization in Pakistan starting from April 2019.
With expertise in various fields, including lecturing and examining at the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine in Sri Lanka, Dr. Palitha Mahipala is expected to play a pivotal role in addressing challenges and improving the efficiency of the health sector.
This appointment comes as the term of the current health secretary is set to expire, and President Ranil Wickramasinghe is expected to make the official announcement.
