“Do not give health powers to politicians like Lokuge” – GMOA requests

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) today urged the Director General of Health Services not to allow such acts to take place anywhere in the country again, alleging that the isolation recently imposed on the Piliyandala Police Division was lifted and only a few specific areas were affected.

The decision to isolate was taken last Saturday (01) due to the outbreak of the Covid epidemic, but was decided by the Piliyandala Medical Officer of Health.

Accordingly, the National Center for the Control of Covid announced the situation after a final decision by the Director General of Health Services.

Despite this, steps were taken on Monday (03) to remove some areas in Piliyandala from isolation under the influence of Minister Lokuge without consulting the health authorities.

The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) has asked the Director General of Health Services to say that deciding whether to isolate an area or impose restrictions on travel is a purely technical matter and that any politician or other non-health official should immediately oppose any influence.
