The Judicial Service Commission has taken steps to suspend the services of Moratuwa District Judge Thilina Gamage.
The suspension follows an investigation by the Commission into several allegations, including the illegal possession of an elephant calf.
Judge Thilina Gamage was officially informed in writing of the suspension on August 1.
He previously served as the Chief Magistrate of Colombo and later as the Magistrate and District Judge of the Moratuwa District Court.
Judge Gamage was earlier involved in a misconduct case and a related disciplinary inquiry. He was suspended from service in 2015–2016 in connection with the illegal possession of an elephant calf. Although he was acquitted of the criminal charges on December 16, 2021, the Judicial Service Commission had not yet concluded its disciplinary inquiry into the matter. The ongoing inquiry aims to determine his suitability for continued judicial service.
Charge sheets about the investigation were handed over to Judge Gamage last month, and he was given 21 days to submit his response.
According to sources, the suspension is directly linked to this disciplinary investigation.
