The Board of Trustees of the Mannar Thiruketheeswaram Kovil have commenced a protest claiming that the five acre land used by the Mannar Mathota temple so far belongs to the Kovil.
The Kovil trustees had started clearing the land using a bulldozer and the Mathota Vihara had submitted information that the land belonged to the temple.

As the situation escalated, TNA Wanni District Parliamentarian Charles Nirmalanathan had also gone to the spot and the Board of Trustees had told the Member of Parliament that the land belonged to the Thiruketheeswaram Kovil.

Police had arrived at the scene following the protest and the MP had requested the police to conduct a proper investigation into the land and bring justice.
