Ranjan Jayalal, the General Secretary of the Ceylon Electricity Workers’ Union, has announced that disciplinary inquiries have commenced for the 62 suspended employees of the Ceylon Electricity Board. The disciplinary process began yesterday (11), with charge sheets being issued to the employees.

According to Jayalal, two employees faced disciplinary investigations yesterday (11), and similar proceedings will follow for the remaining suspended employees in the coming days.

The suspended employees were among those who participated in a demonstration held in Colombo on January 3, 4, and 5, protesting against the restructuring and sale of the Ceylon Electricity Board. It is noted that employees from the Colombo Electricity Board joined the protest during their lunch break, while those from other areas attended with approved leave.

Despite their participation in the demonstration, the governing authority opted to suspend the employees from their duties. Additionally, the authority has decided to provide only half of the wages to the suspended employees, a move strongly criticized by the Ceylon Electricity Workers’ Union.
