In response to disruptive strike actions by certain employees of the Electricity Board, the Minister of Power and Energy, Kanchana Wijesekera, has issued a letter to the Chairman of the Electricity Board. The letter calls for immediate disciplinary action, including the suspension of services, against employees who engaged in planned and illegal strikes without proper leave or medical notification.
The letter emphasizes that such actions have led to public complaints regarding the closure of windows and disruptions to essential public services provided by the Electricity Board. The strikes, which occurred on Wednesday (04), Thursday (05) and Friday (06), prompted the Minister to address the issue and ensure the uninterrupted delivery of electricity services to the public.
The communication reminds employees that all services related to electricity supply have been declared essential through a special gazette, and the leave for all employees has been canceled, with written notification about the essential nature of these services. The Minister has requested that information on the striking employees be forwarded to the Ministry for further action.
