The driver who was publicly called a “donkey” by Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala, has resigned from his position after surrendering his vehicle, according to ministry sources.
Following the incident, the young man reportedly began referring to the entire ministry as “donkeys.” Unable to cope with the work environment under these circumstances, he resigned from service five days ago.
The controversy began on the day of Ganemulle Sanjeewa’s murder in the Aluthkade courts complex. During the chaotic scene, the Deputy Minister, who arrived suddenly, gave a brief statement to the media. However, he was later seen searching for his driver and, in front of the cameras, asked, “Where is this donkey?” This remark sparked widespread public discussion.
Eventually, Cabinet Spokesperson Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa had to issue an apology on behalf of the minister for his inappropriate remark.
