MP Rishad Bathiudeen was arrested today (19) at around 3 am while hiding in a luxury apartment in front of the Mount Lavinia Municipal Council in Dehiwala, Police said. Police have also arrested a doctor and her husband, a resident of the house where Bathiudeen was in hiding for aiding and abetting him.
CID sources said that a special investigation will be launched into his whereabouts before his arrival in Dehiwala.
Rishad Bathiudeen was arrested after a six-day special operation by six police teams. He is being accused of using SLTB busses to transport voters (IDPs) in Mannar during the last presidential election.
