The decision of re opening the A1, Kandy Colombo main road will be taken following the inspection by the officials of the Road Development Authority and the National Building Research Organization (NBRO) which will begin this morning on the landslide risk in the Pahala Kadugannawa area Director General of the Authority Sardha Weerakoon said. The road has been c.osed sine 10 PM last night (10) due to land slide risk near the 98th km post, Pahala Kadugannawa area on the Colombo-Kandy road.
The police spokesman said that since this morning, the police have taken steps to provide guidance to vehicles coming on this road for alternative routes and they should refrain from using this road except for an urgent matter.
Professor Athula Senaratne of the Department of Geology at the University of Peradeniya, who conducted a preliminary inspection of the area, said yesterday that all signs of a landslide were now showing in the area, which also includes the main road.
Following are the alternative routes announced by the Road Development Authority.
- Come to Kurunegala via Ambepussa and Kandy via Galagedara-Katugastota
- From Kegalle to Polgahawela and then to Kurunegala via Galagedara Katugastota to Kandy
- From Mawanella to Rambukkana – Hataraliyadda – Galagedara via Katugastota to Kandy.
- From Mawanella to Hemmatagama Gampola – Peradeniya Kandy
