The government has restricted certain insurance benefits available under the special insurance scheme for school children SURAKSHA The Sunday Times reports.

Accordingly, the benefits paid in the event of the death of the parents of school children are restricted to low income families earning less than Rs. 15,000 per month. Previously, everyone was able to receive benefits regardless of their family income level.

Also, previously there was no maximum limit for the benefit for critical illnesses but now it has been limited to Rs. 1.5 million.

Many parents have complained that they are unaware of this change, which has been in effect since December last year The Sunday Times further reports.
