The long-pending cricket case, delayed by three judicial withdrawals, is set to be examined in the Court of Appeal today (20).
The petition, filed by the Sports Minister challenging the prohibition order suspending the Cricket Interim Committee’s activities for managing the Sri Lanka Cricket, will be considered by a bench led by Justice Sobitha Rajakaruna and D. N. Samarakoon.
The case experienced setbacks as the President of the Court of Appeal, Judge Nishanka Bandula Karunaratne, first resigned due to concerns about the sports minister’s involvement. Subsequently, Justice Dhammika Ganepola withdrew from the bench, citing personal reasons. The most recent change involved Justice Neil Iddawela leaving the panel at the last minute.
The new bench, comprising Justices Sobitha Rajakaruna and D. N. Samarakoon, is expected to examine the case, which has faced multiple delays and changes in the judiciary.
