A 23-year-old mother with Covid has given birth to healthy twins at the Mulleriyawa Hospital. The woman who was admitted to the De Zoysa Women’s Hospital from an isolated area in Colombo was transferred to the Mulleriyawa Hospital after she tested positive for Covid 19.
She suffered from diabetes and high blood pressure and therefore gave birth by caesarean section. The two children had to be kept in a premature infant unit due to low birth weight, but doctors said the lack of such a unit at the Mulleriyawa Hospital has caused severe difficulties.
The twins have been handed over to the mother and the doctors have said that the children will have to be kept in the hospital until they put on weight.
