The Junior Bar Committee has requested that special facilities be provided to members of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) who are infected with the new coronavirus virus.
In a letter to Kalinga Indatissa PC, President of the BASL, Kuvera de Zoysa PC, Chairman of the Junior Bar Committee, requested that suitable facilities should be for lawyers and their families as some government hospitals do not even have the necessary toilet facilities.
The letter thanks Kalinga Indatissa for intervening and providing such facilities on a previous occasion and has requested Indatissa to discuss with the Minister of Health the possibility of obtaining suitable hospitals with adequate facilities for its members taking into consideration their professional standing as members of the BASL.
The committee has now been slammed on social media as a result of the request. Many have called it a ‘shameless’ act on their part given the current situation of all Covid affected citizens in the country.
