Covid 19 : Lawyers slam Junior Bar Committee’s request for suitable hospitals

A large number of lawyers on social media have slammed the request made by the Junior Bar Committee for suitable hospitals for its members infected with Covid 19 considering their professional standing.

The Committee had recently sent a letter signed by its Chairman, Kuvera De Zoysa PC to the President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Kalinga Indatissa PC urging him to hold a discussion with the health authorities on the possibility of obtaining suitable hospitals with better facilities for its lawyers who test positive for Covid 19.

Lawyers taking to social media have criticized the move when the general public has been highly affected by the Covid 19 pandemic. Many said they refuse any preferential treatment owing to the fact they are legal professionals and would opt to be treated at a government hospital as other citizens in the country.
