The court hearing the case of Dinesh Shafter’s death postponed the handing over of a sim card requested by Mrs. Shafter, citing ongoing investigations into the incident. Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya made this decision during yesterday’s (12) session.

During the court proceedings, it was stated that the request for the sim card could not be considered at this time due to the ongoing investigations into Dinesh Shafter’s death.

The court directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to provide an update regarding the possibility of handing over the relevant evidence to the aggrieved parties in the next hearing.

The case is scheduled to resume on Thursday (15).

To determine the nature of Dinesh Shafter’s death, a five-member expert committee has been appointed by the court. The committee will investigate whether the incident was a murder or a suicide.

As part of the ongoing investigation, the body of Dinesh Shafter, which was recovered on June 15, has been transferred to Karapitiya Hospital for a second post-mortem examination.

The court’s decision to delay the handover of the sim card highlights the importance of completing thorough investigations before proceeding with the case. The involvement of the expert committee indicates the commitment to ensuring a comprehensive and unbiased examination of the circumstances surrounding Dinesh Shafter’s tragic death.

The next court session on June 15 is expected to shed further light on the progress of the investigation and whether the requested sim card will be made available to Mrs. Shafter and the concerned parties.
