Kaduwela Magistrate Chanima Wijebandara has directed the CID to release vehicles valued at ten crore rupees, seized under Operation ‘Yukthiya’, deeming them illegal assets belonging to a Kaduwela resident known as “Welivita Sudda.”

The vehicles, including luxury buses, a car, and a motorcycle, were seized by the Kaduwela police in December 2023 and handed over to the CID’s Illegal Assets Division for investigation.

Despite repeated detention orders, the vehicles remained in custody for nearly two months, prompting objections from defense lawyers citing legal irregularities.

The Magistrate granted multiple opportunities for the CID to obtain proper acquisition orders from the Homagama High Court. However, when the CID requested further detention without proper authorization, the court rejected the plea.
