A dispute has arisen at the Nallur Kovil in Jaffna as devotees attending the festival express outrage over the exorbitant price of milk tea being sold at the kovil’s canteen. Reports indicate that milk tea is being sold for 200 rupees, which has sparked heated complaints from a large number of devotees.
Frustration escalated to the point where a significant number of customers confronted the officials from the Kovil’s Consumer Affairs Authority, expressing their discontent over the high milk tea prices. The situation inside the canteen became chaotic, prompting the kovil’s control authority to call in the police to restore order and remove the agitated patrons.
Allegations have been made that while regular customers are charged the steep price for milk tea, the canteen provides free milk tea to the police and high-ranking officials. Devotees visiting the kovil have criticized the quality of the milk tea for the high cost, accusing the Nallur kovil of exploiting customers for excessive profit.
Devotees have voiced their concerns and frustration, urging temple authorities to reconsider the pricing and ensure that visitors are not taken advantage of during the festival.
