Dr. Ramanathan Archchuna, the Acting Medical Superintendent of Chavakachcheri Hospital, who was involved in several controversial incidents, was arrested by the police yesterday (3rd) for assaulting doctors at Mannar Hospital late at night.

After presenting the suspect to the Mannar Magistrate, the Magistrate ordered him to be remanded until the 7th of this month.

Dr. Arjuna’s arrest was based on a complaint made by the doctors to the Mannar Police when he stormed Mannar Hospital and attempted to attack the doctors there.

After being appointed Acting Medical Superintendent of Chavakachcheri Hospital in Jaffna, Dr. Arjuna posted several videos on social media, severely criticizing the health authorities in the north. Following this, he was attacked by a group of doctors who came from Jaffna to Chavakachcheri Hospital. In response, the Acting Medical Superintendent posted on social media that he is even friendly with the LTTE organization, sending a message to the doctors and provincial health authorities who were pressuring him.

When the Chavakachcheri police attempted to arrest him, a large group of people gathered around the hospital and prevented the police from making the arrest. He remained in the hospital for many days, continuing his duties.

During this time, numerous accusations were leveled against him.

Later, he was called to Colombo for disciplinary inquiries. On his way back from Colombo, Dr. Arjuna stopped in Mannar and attempted to attack the doctors at Mannar Hospital.
