The Colombo University Students’ Union has sent a letter to the President, urging the removal of Venerable Murutthettuwe Ananda Thero as the university’s Chancellor. They argue that his appointment was based on political reasons rather than merit.
The union highlights that although the Chancellor’s position is largely ceremonial and appointed by the Head of State, it represents the university’s honor and reputation.
They expressed that the appointment of Venerable Ananda Thero has caused significant dissatisfaction among students and the broader society. The union has called on the President to use his executive powers to remove the current Chancellor and appoint someone more suitable to uphold the university’s prestige.
