The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court that former State Intelligence Service Director, retired Major General Suresh Sallay, has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital after his health reportedly deteriorated during a hunger strike while in custody.
The CID conveyed this information to the court through a motion filed before the Colombo Fort Magistrate.

Sallay, who had been held in CID custody in connection with investigations into the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks, was admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for emergency treatment on the night of June 7.
According to reports, Salley had commenced a hunger strike while in CID custody, alleging that he was being subjected to inhumane treatment. Following a deterioration in his health condition, authorities arranged for his immediate hospitalization.
Meanwhile, several political parties, civil organizations, and members of the Maha Sangha have launched a continuous Satyagraha campaign in front of the Fort Railway Station in Colombo, demanding justice for Sallay.
Family members of the former intelligence chief, including his mother, also participated in the protest.
