The Chinese Embassy in Colombo on behalf of its government China announced on Sunday that it was providing a USD 90 million grant to Sri Lanka under an Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of the People’s Republic of China and the Government of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.
Calling the financial assistance a “timely grant,” the Chinese Embassy in Colombo said that it would be used for medical care, education and water supplies in Sri Lanka’s rural areas. and that it would “contribute to the well-being of (Sri Lankans) in a post-COVID era.”
The agreement for the grant signed by Wang Xiaotao, Chairman of China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), and S.R. Attygalle, Treasury Secretary of the Ministry of Finance of Sri Lanka, said the Chinese Embassy in Sri Lanka.
The statement said both President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa extended their sincere appreciation on behalf of the Sri Lankan Government and people to the Chinese side for this urgently-needed assistance.
