Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo was narrowly escaped from the sealed and arrest of its officials over the Chandimal Jayasinghe’s lockdown rules breaking party with a quick decision of the Police. Hours before the action against the hotel investigation has been handed over to Colombo Crimes Division removing it from Fort Police. According to police sources, due to this, the action taken regarding the Shangri-La Hotel was avoided.
Police sources told Lankasara that there is a speculation among the police officers as to whether the purpose of handing over the investigation to the Colombo Crimes Division to obstruct further investigations into the incident.
The sources suspect that this is due to the fact that some senior police officials were aware of the date and venue of the party and the people who were going to it. It is also said that this is the reason why the police were late in taking action against the party while various publicity was spread on social media about the party. However, in the end, the police had to take action in the face of continuous criticism on social media regarding the party.
Nearly 20 people who allegedly attended the party have been remanded in custody after being arrested by the police.
