Ranjan Jayalal, General Secretary of the Ceylon Electricity Workers’ Union, has announced plans for nationwide protests. The demands include the immediate repeal of the Electricity Board Act, the swift reinstatement of suspended employees, and an end to the suppression of trade unions.
The protests are scheduled for Wednesday (07) at 12:00 noon in front of the main offices of the Electricity Board. Representatives from various public and private trade unions, including those from postal services, banking, insurance, port, railway, and telecom sectors, are expected to join the demonstration organized by Electricity Board employees.
It has been assured that these protests will not disrupt public services.
