Dr. Vijith Gunasekara, Chief Executive Officer of the National Medicine Regulatory Authority, who is facing several charges including the incident of submitting fake documents while importing drugs, has been removed from that position yesterday (07) Ministry of Health sources said.
Sources further said that this decision has been taken by the Board of Council of the NMRA and he will be absorbed into the Ministry.
Dr. Gunasekara, who is currently under a foreign travel ban, has also been accused of destroying an important stock of documents for submitting fake documents to Sri Lanka. Health sources say that further investigations are to be followed on regarding him.
Although this doctor was asked to step down as CEO, he refused to step down.
