The Constitutional Council today (03) unanimously approved the appointment of L.S.I. Jayaratne as the new Auditor General.
The Council, which met yesterday under the chairmanship of Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, approved the name submitted by the President. Ms. Jayaratne previously served as a Senior Deputy Auditor General in the Auditor General’s Department.
Her nomination had been rejected at an earlier meeting of the Constitutional Council. However, following the appointment of three new civil members to the Council, the proposal was reconsidered and approved.
Sri Lanka has been without an Auditor General for nearly 10 months, during which time all four previously recommended candidates were rejected by the Constitutional Council.
