Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaranatunge in a statement has asked imprisoned Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Ranjan Ramanayake not to be discouraged. “Face it all bravely because all the people who value justice are with you.” she said.

According to Kumaranatunge she was shocked and saddened to hear of his arrest and imprisonment. “You are in this situation because you have boldly spoken out against the corrupt regime in this country” she said.

“You have to go to jail today for honestly trying to clean up the most corrupt political and state regime, when tenders and large scale frauds, murderers, racketeers are out and free” she added.

She noted that she too as President had attempted to clean up the system but unfortunately all her efforts were undone after she left office. “Whatever the challenges and obstacles, we must work with great dedication for the betterment of our country” she noted.
